AICHILIK RIVER TO KONGAKUT RIVER, 2009

This was my third ABEC Alaska trip and the best for wildlife.

We flew in to the Aichilik River, eventually.  Four of us had to stay at the Sheenjek, and we joined the rest the next day, landing in thick fog.  We then walked south into the Brooks Range, staying on the Aichilik and crossing fast flowing icy water many times.  We got hit with 6 days of rain in a row, but the wildlife was fantastic, including wolverine, 3 griz, caribou and Dall sheep.  One group saw musk ox from the planet.

We eventually climbed over a divide into Drain Creek and then went over another divide to another Kongakut River tributary, coming out just south of 69 degrees north.
